LOTUS TO TAKE CENTRE STAGE AS THE CHOSEN MARQUE AT THE 2012 GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

A full six months ahead of next summer’s Festival of Speed (28 June - 1 July 2012), Goodwood is excited to reveal that it will be honouring the pioneering Lotus marque with the main ‘Central Feature’ installation, displayed prominently outside Goodwood House.

Goodwood will celebrate this much-loved British brand at an exciting time in the marque’s history, as Lotus is currently two years into a dynamic five year brand reinvigoration plan with the goal of returning the marque to its original status alongside other prestigious sports car manufacturers. The plan includes an entire new range, the first of which will be the return of the iconic Esprit in 2013.

It’s not all about looking to the future for Lotus though, a big part of the brand is its heritage and Lotus will enjoy a vast array of significant anniversaries in 2012, including 60 years since the first Lotus company was founded by Colin Chapman in 1952, four years after the incomparable engineer had built his first vehicle – the Mark 1 trials car – in an old stable behind his parent’s Railway Hotel in Hornsey, North London.

Next year also sees the 50th anniversary of the ground-breaking Lotus Elan sportscar, 40 years since the iconic Esprit supercar concept was first revealed by Giugiaro, 35 years since the innovative Lotus 78 ground effect Formula 1 car competed, and 20 years since cyclist Chris Boardman won a gold medal for Britain in the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics, riding the revolutionary Type 108 bicycle developed by Lotus.

The enviable global reputation that Lotus enjoys today grew out of Chapman’s unparalleled technical ingenuity to dominate all levels of motor sport, from club racing to Formula 1, to create a glorious and enduring legacy. To date Lotus has gone on to win 13 Formula 1 World Championships (six drivers, and seven constructers titles), and a spectacular collection of these victorious F1 cars will be at Goodwood in the summer, along with an impressive selection of Lotus Indycars, saloons, sports and road cars, all forming a key attraction at the 2012 Festival of Speed. A wealth of current and ex-works Lotus drivers are also expected to appear at Goodwood.

Full details of the Lotus vehicle and driver line-up, along with further news about the main Lotus Central Feature installation, will be revealed over the coming months.

JAGUAR E-TYPE - THE ESSENTIAL BUYER'S GUIDE. NEW APP FOR YOUR iPHONE/iPOD/iPAD!

Jaguar E-type – The Essential Buyer's Guide (3.8 & 4.2 litre) . Your marque expert: Peter Crespin.

A long-awaited guide for deciding which, if any, E-type to purchase. This app steers buyers past the dazzling exterior to examine systematically, section by section, cars they are considering. Picture-packed to help orientate even newcomers and ensure they buy the best car for their budget.

The 6-cylinder E-type is generally regarded as the world's most beautiful sports car. Such is the allure of this sixties icon, that many have let their heart rule their heads and ended up with a car that remained unfinished or wasn't right for them in some way. Forty years later, the risks have multiplied hugely, since many E-types appear superficially good but hide a multitude of, usually very expensive, sins. This dedicated buyer's guide, written by someone who had to build his own car the hard way, is packed with the dos and don'ts of selecting, viewing and thoroughly assessing any potential purchase, to make sure you enjoy your E-type ownership and avoid ending up with a dispiriting and financially ruinous money-pit.

Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.

DREAMING OF A NEW PORSCHE 911? GO CONFIGURE…

Arriving in all UK Porsche Centres officially this weekend (December 17), the new Porsche 911 Carrera is a completely new generation of the iconic sports coupe and to celebrate its launch, Porsche is inviting fans to visit the car configurator on porsche.co.uk and build their dream 911. One lucky participant’s 911 will be turned from virtual dream into reality.

Log on to porsche.co.uk

The new Porsche 911 configurator uses the latest 3D computer modelling to generate images with a remarkable level of realism, enabling viewers to consider the appearance of colour combinations and explore in detail the range of optional dynamic and cosmetic features available. Further functions include the option to calculate personalised finance examples once your car specification is configured, and also play the engine sound of the car.

Simply specify your ideal new 911 using the on-line Porsche car configurator on porsche.co.uk, and enter your details before midnight on January 31 2012.

One entry will be selected at random and that exact new 911 will be built. The winner will be invited to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone to drive their ‘perfect 911’ on a half-day programme next summer.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera

True to the 911 tradition, the new sports car combines a powerful rear-mounted flat-six engine with the iconic silhouette, and adds more power and efficiency, less weight and a host of new technologies to further enhance the sports car driving experience.

The 911 Carrera costs from £71,449 and the Carrera S from £81,242. Standard equipment on all models is leather interior, sports seats, automatic climate control, Bi-Xenon headlights, 4.6-inch colour touch-screen Porsche Communication Management with satellite navigation, a universal audio interface offering MP3 connectivity, Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and a three year warranty.

The Carrera S adds 20-inch alloy wheels, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with rear limited slip differential, in addition to the power advantage of the larger 3.8-litre engine.

Fitted to every 911 is a Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), a sophisticated vehicle security package approved to Thatcham Category 5 standard, and customers can also explore the potential of their new car by participating in a complimentary course at the Porsche Experience Centre, Silverstone.

THE 2012 GOODWOOD REVIVAL TO MARK THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AC COBRA WITH A UNIQUE ONE-MODEL RACE

The finest collection of significant and authentic racing AC Cobras ever assembled in the UK will gather at next year’s Goodwood Revival (14-16 September 2012) for an exceptional one-model race.

To mark the 50th anniversary since Carroll Shelby’s introduction of the initial versions of this cult Anglo-American sports car, the 2012 Revival will feature a grid exclusively made up of 30 Cobras and their derivatives. This special all-Cobra race will be a 45-minute two-driver competition, with driver changes in the pits between 15 and 30 minutes.

It is expected that this one-off race will feature an extraordinary mix of historically-significant competition Cobras, including some of the special-bodied aerodynamic Cobra-based coupés. Goodwood also hope that Carroll Shelby will be able to attend the 2012 Revival in person as well, although this is yet to be confirmed.

The race promises to make for an intriguing spectacle and a fitting tribute to one of the world’s most revered, and copied, sports car which has a long association with Goodwood. An exceptional line-up of top drivers is expected to campaign the Cobras. More detailed information about this exclusive race will follow early next year.

Tickets and further information for the 2012 Goodwood Revival, plus Festival of Speed and Moving Motor Show, can be ordered by on the Goodwood website www.goodwood.com/motorsport/

NEW APP! MOTORWAY WALKS AND BREAKS

Anyone who drives on the motorways of England, Scotland and Wales will benefit from this guide to walks within 5 miles of motorway exits. All of the UK is covered, from Exeter to Perth and Swansea to Canterbury.

Use this app to get more fun for your fuel, see more of the countryside, take a healthy break, or enjoy a relaxing pub lunch.

Each page features a 30 to 45 minute walk, with a selected pub or café along the way. Activities for children are included, from bouncy castles to nature trails.

All of the walks are suitable for dogs, and those with assistance dogs will find details of accessible paths and disabled facilities – for example, RADAR, a key that is made available to registered disabled people, which enables them to access locked disabled WCs and facilities.

The listed pubs all welcome well-behaved canines.

Most of the pubs are traditional inns, serving high quality food at realistic prices. Landlords, chefs and opening times can change quickly, and phone numbers are given for you to check in advance to avoid disappointment.

In the text, ‘half-left/right’ is a walk direction convention that is used to describe a 45 degree turn in either of these directions.

Many more motorway walks, dog-friendly pubs, beaches and country walks are on our website: www.drivingwithdogs.co.uk. We hope you visit the site and share your comments and suggestions. More info.
